A set of four of the most sought-after coin designs ever minted – each over 100 years old!
Each of the four first-year coins in this collection was struck by the U.S. Mint for only a short time – sometimes only weeks – before the design was changed. As a result, each design is a one-year-only classic that is sought after by collectors and historians alike.

Remarkably, each coin is presented in very good circulated condition with most major design details visible. It is also protectively encapsulated, allowing you to safely examine both sides without fear of damage from dust, dirt or fingerprints.

THIS SET INCLUDES ALL FOUR ONE-YEAR-ONLY COINS:
• The FIRST Indian Head Penny in 1859. With the Civil War looming, the original laurel wreath reverse was changed in 1860 to an oak wreath and Union shield to symbolize national unity.

• The FIRST Liberty Head Nickel in 1883. Known as the “Racketeer Nickel,” the short-lived original reverse design did not include “Cents” – so con-men gold-plated the coin and pretended it was a $5 gold coin.

• The FIRST Lincoln Penny in 1909. The designer’s “VDB” initials on the reverse caused a scandal, since they were seen as “advertising” – so the initials were removed just weeks later.

• The FIRST Buffalo Nickel in 1913. Soon after the coin was issued in 1913, the reverse was altered to stop the denomination “Five Cents” wearing away, creating the rarely seen “Raised Ground” original design.

As the perfect finishing touch, the collection comes with an impressive custom-crafted “observation” display case at no additional charge. Featuring a rotating panel and glass lid, the unique display elegantly showcases the four encapsulated coins, which can be turned to view either side even when the display is closed. You may also safely remove the encapsulated coins from the display for closer inspection, if desired.
