At the dawn of the muscle car era, Chevrolet found itself among steep competition to be at the forefront of automotive power and performance. To set itself ahead of the pack, Chevrolet introduced the Chevelle Malibu SS Z-16, one of the most powerful muscle cars of that era. However, the 375hp 396 cubic inch V-8 flouted Chevy’s displacement limits at the time, so only 200 Chevelles with the SS Z-16 package were ever built.
